August 1,
2005
As July changed over
to August I was of course up for one last log in of City of Heroes.
I had tried to get Mikey to do the Sister Psyche TF without luck. Instead
I ended up doing mission with some key members of my Supergroup (Smash
Club - Experience the Orangeness of Green 0_o). At 4am I called it quits,
saying sayonara to the team, who will all be at level 50 by the time
I get back.
The day began with
little fanfare. We got to the airport with no trouble and now I'm sitting
here at gate 102 waiting for my flight to board. I wonder how I'll fare
in Japan. Right now, I'm feeling rather embarassed and shy. Though that's
nothing particularly new.
I haven't flown in
a big plane since my childhood trips to Hawaii. There was a nice little
monitor with a bunch of movies I didn't have the patience to watch.
Go figure, I was stuck in a space only a little bigger than my hips
and I had other things to do? I did watch most of the French documentary
on Emperor Penguins, that was cute, but the rest was trash. So I alternated
between playing my gameboy and solitaire, staring at the navigation
map, and reading the Vonnegut book Eric lent me. The system seemed to
work pretty well for killing time. The first thing I noticed flying
over Japan was that it was green. Green = moisture = humidity = sweaty
Erin, ick.
After the multi-hour
long plane trip I've finally arrived. I guess I'm in a country that
speaks as quickly and softly as I do (depending on my level of comfort).
Man, it must be difficult to understand me. Of course they are also
speaking in another language (or broken English). I guess the plus is
that I'm used to being spazztic, so the fact that I'm a spaz here is
pretty normal.
The sleep schedule that I've
been on for the past couple of months is actually pretty close to the
time change over here. Who knew playing CoH at 4am could have a purpose?
It's funny, I'm actually
on the other side of the Pacific in that far away island country that's
like the size of California and is the birthplace of most of my entertainment.
You would think that Narita Airport would be in a built up area (like
LAX), but it's not. From what I can see from the train its fields and
houses. Its interesting, but I can't wait to get to the city, dump my
stuff in the hotel (hopefully without mishap), and lose myself.
