How to deal with cynicism -- as according with my growth and devo class

In order to properly accept or reject information that is presented to you it is necessary to question it. Given that, it will now be presented applied to West Point based on research conducted on acceptance of the honor code. It found that plebes were at a high level of acceptance, then it dropped to the lowest level of acceptance yuk year, and progressively increased to about the same level it was though cow and firstie years. The explanation for this is that plebe year, the honor code is accepted out of fear and do to prior beliefs held. This significantly declines yuk year because they are in the process of questioning the information presented to them, hence the stereotype "cynical yuk." As they resolve their questions acceptance increases.

When I told this to someone they argued that I was misunderstanding and that yuks question in the wrong way ...

Today this concept was revisited in class

"So how do you help yuks not be cynical?"

My teachers answer went like this: At this stage everyone has their own answers. To give them your answers is useless because their answers are always better. So when I teach VET classes I don't give answers, every statement I make is a question. The best thing you can do is make them think about their answers. They don't always realize the depth to them. You have to be able to notice the flaws in what they are saying, so you have to know what you are talking about well.
