Erin's Super Anime Gush

I may not be as much of a closet Otaku as Kanji from Genshiken was, but I have my fair share of Otaku tendencies. Lately they've been more active than usual. I think they were awoken after my impulsive (Fullmetal Alchemist) trip to Japan.

My current two obsessions are Bleach and The Prince of Tennis (tennis no oujisama). Usually I only have one obsession (like FMA) and stick with that for a while, but having an anime rental store nearby has made it much easier to have multiple obsessions. Though I'd perfer to keep it at 2, no more than 3.

So Bleach has captured my attention in a way which Naruto couldn't (sorry to the hojillion fans out there). Though I do admit I do like the character Sasuke from Naruto and have amassed quite a bit of stuff featuring him; his arm warmers (whenever the decide to arive from HK), coinpurse, keychain, notebook. It's easy to aquire things from Naruto do to the huge volume of stuff available even in the US. Sasuke's seiyuu is also the seiyuu of my favorite character in Bleach, Ishida Uryuu. They're similar characters, anit-social perfectionists, with something to prove/avenge. Though Ishida is much more geeky and nice than Sasuke. Anyway, I'm not going to bother to summarize plots, when these sites do a fine job of it so download the anime and the manga and be merry: Bleach 7, Bleach Portal. Doujinshi: Bleach Party.

I've been buying the Japanese Bleach manga from a bookstore in Little Tokyo (Kinokuniya). They're cheaper, like $5.40 and only 390 yen (less than $3.90) in Japan *pouts*. Plus I can practice reading Japanese and not have to read any silly translations.

I picked up Prince of Tennis shortly after I had caught up with Bleach's episodes (now I watch and read them as they come out in Japan, yay for fansubers). I had held off on watching it for a while. I mean it's sports anime and has 170+ episodes. But it was on Yukon's LJ interests list and I like her taste in anime/games. So eventually I cracked and rented and have been obsessed over it ever since. It's tons of cute characters, Tezuka being my favorite (his seiyuu is also Byakuya from Bleach), and this great portrayal of tennis that has me eager to get my racket back so I can play again. I haven't found many fansites but you can download episodes here: Animesuki. Fansite: Kesshin, Karupin. Doujinshi: Tenipuri-DSP, Dragonfly.
